Welcome to HOST - Stralsund University of Applied Sciences

A week for a successful start to your studies: As part of "ANKOMMEN & ORIENTIEREN", helpful seminars and lectures as well as various introductory events will take place in the respective faculties for first-semester students of all Bachelor's degree programmes.

We will also welcome our new Master's students to campus on Monday, 16 September 2024. Special information and introductory events for the Master's degree programmes will take place on this day.

You will receive detailed information on the procedure by email at the beginning of September.

The programme starts on 16.09.2024 with the welcome, the joint photo session and the university fair on the Mensa forecourt. Further activities will be organised in groups. On this first day, we will present the university in an overview with administrative areas, student committees and university associations. In the coming days, lectures will be held on financing your studies, studying abroad, academic writing and much more.

In order to get to know the campus better in the first week, the student associations and committees organise a varied leisure programme, e.g:

  • City tours with a night watchman
  • Games evenings
  • Cosy barbecues
  • IT onboarding
  • Cinema screenings
  • Various sports taster programmes

 

Maths pre-course 2024

  • The preliminary course is aimed at all prospective Bachelor students at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences. In the HOST degree programmes, mathematics courses are part of the study regulations. Attending the preliminary course is free of charge and voluntary, but strongly recommended.

Matriculation ceremony

  • The ceremony to mark the start of the 2024/2025 academic year will take place on Tuesday, 17 September 2024 for all new students in the Kulturkirche St. Jakobi at 14:00.
    Before the ceremony, the first-year students and university representatives will march together through the old town to the square in front of St Jakobi Church to announce the start of the semester to the people of Stralsund

  • At the ceremony, the deans of the faculties - Prof. Dr Claudia Danker (Economics), Prof. Dr Birgit Steffenhagen (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and Prof. Dr Mark Vehse (Mechanical Engineering) - ceremonially enrol one student from each degree programme.

  • Traditionally, prizes are awarded at the ceremony to the best Bachelor students of the fifth semester in terms of grade point average - by the Rostock Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Stralsund University of Applied Sciences' support association and the MV Chamber of Engineers.

  • Afterwards, the traditional meeting market with food stalls takes place in front of the Kulturkirche St Jakobi.
