Part-time study

Are you working alongside your studies in Stralsund or do you have family obligations in terms of parenting, caring or nursing or are you in a special life situation?

There can be various reasons for wanting to study part-time. To enable you to study part-time at HOST, the regular courses and examinations offered on your degree programme will be planned individually for you on a semester-by-semester basis and determined by the faculty's examination board.

In the case of part-time study, approximately half of the time required for the degree programme according to the study regulations is planned per semester.

What do you need to consider when applying?

  • Informal application no later than four weeks before the start of a semester
  • List of examinations to be taken in the coming semesters, including the final thesis (approx. 50% of the total workload per semester)
  • to be addressed to the examination board of the respective faculty via your study office

Note: Find out about financing your part-time studies, especially if you receive BAföG!

How is part-time study organised?
The examination board will decide whether to approve your application. Examinations other than those listed in your application may be organised if this is necessary to ensure a proper course of study. In this case, you as the applicant must be heard before the decision is made. Once a written decision has been issued, no other examinations can be effectively taken in the respective semesters. In the case of an approved part-time study programme, with the determination of deviating standard examination dates for performances and examinations by the Examination Board, the processing times for examinations and coursework specified in the respective subject examination regulations remain unaffected. This also applies to the final thesis.

The application for part-time study can be withdrawn up to two months after the start of the semester.

Further regulations are set out in § 5 of the framework examination regulations of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences.
