Final thesis

Registration
Admission to the final thesis is granted upon application by the student.

Registration deadline
The standard examination date and the requirements are set out in the degree programme's examination regulations. Final examinations must be registered for and taken for the first time no later than two semesters after the regular examination date; if the final thesis is not registered or not taken, it is deemed not to have been attempted and the first attempt is assessed as 5.0 (failed) (Section 17 (1) RPO).

Blocking note
At the request of the first assessor or a company, the thesis can be marked as blocked; this must be applied for with the application for admission or at the latest upon submission of the thesis with an informal application.

A thesis that has been failed or deemed to have been failed can only be repeated once!

Application for admission under FORMS/APPLICATIONS

Unless the examination regulations stipulate a specific language, the thesis may be written in English or another language instead of German upon request and only with the consent of all assessors; in the latter case, it must contain a summary in German or English.

Application for a thesis in another language under FORMS/APPLICATIONS

The thesis must be assessed by two assessors. It is possible to appoint an external reviewer as a second reviewer. Second assessors may only be persons authorised to examine in accordance with Section 36 (4) of the State Higher Education Act. (Excerpt from Section 36 (4) LHG: Examination achievements may only be assessed by persons who themselves possess the qualification to be determined by the examination or an equivalent qualification). The Examination Board decides on the authorisation following an application.

Processing

The exact processing time is regulated in the subject examination regulations of the degree programme. You will receive the binding submission date for your thesis with the written notification 'Admission to Thesis'.

The deadline for submitting the thesis can be postponed by up to one month by the Examination Board if there is an important reason for doing so, upon application by the student to the Academic Office, the approval of which must be received by Department II no later than the day of submission. Illness is only considered an important reason for an extension if the illness is immediately proven by an official medical certificate. The illness of the candidate is equivalent to the illness of a child to be cared for, whereby the submission of an official medical certificate is waived in this case.

Submission
The thesis must be submitted to Department II in bound form (one bound copy each for the internal reviewers and, if applicable, for the library) by the deadline with a handwritten and signed declaration of independence and a supplementary electronic form (for plagiarism control and archive) via E-HOST.
Alternatively, and only if the reviewers agree to the purely digital submission, the thesis with a handwritten and signed declaration of independence must be submitted exclusively in digital form via E-HOST by the deadline.
Agree directly with your reviewers whether the digital form is sufficient. The result of the vote must be communicated when submitting the digital version; if there is no agreement, bound copies must be submitted. You are responsible for sending the thesis to the potential external reviewer on time.

It is possible to add the thesis to the collection of the Stralsund University of Applied Sciences library. You also confirm this with the application for admission. It will be published with bibliographic data in the online catalogue.

All copies of your thesis (digital or bound) must be submitted by the deadline. Subsequent submissions are not possible. If you hand in the bound copies in person, please put them in the deadline letterbox in front of Building 1 (opposite the library) or in the Department II mailbox in the post office (Building 1/EG). If you send it by post, the date of the postmark is sufficient to meet the deadline. In this case, please send the proof of submission by email to your responsible study office. The digital form will be sent via E-HOST to your study office as a pdf document.
