Main focus: The use of renewable energy sources such as solar radiation in photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, biomass, wind power and hydrogen power.

Spring School of IRES
The Spring School of the Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (IRES) has been held annually since 1992 as a two-week seminar at the university.
The topics of the Spring School are broad and range from the basics of renewable energies to the current state of research. Topics include energy storage systems, alternative fuels, energy efficiency in buildings, the basics of simulating energy systems, as well as the state of research in hydrogen technology and the technical conversion and electrification of ships to make them more environmentally friendly.
Joint Summer School SustainMV
This sustainability summer school is jointly organized by all universities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV), Northeast Germany, and is open to international bachelor, master and PhD students as well as postdocs and scientists. It takes place annually in August.
Sustainability in all disciplines, to highlight the opportunities for transformation through science and education for a sustainable future, is the overarching theme of this unique event.
Session topics include: Smart Bioenergy and Waste Management, Sustainable Mobility, Sustainable Tourism, Sustainability in the Baltic Sea Region, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Battery Use in Agriculture, an online lab tour of the world of hydrogen, and more.
